“!Why I Refused To Lend Tope Alabi My Car For Her Wedding!, Nollywood Actor Olaiya Igwe

Veteran Yoruba actor Ebun Oloyede, popularly known as Olaiya Igwe, has opened up on why he refused to lend his car to gospel singer Tope Alabi and her husband for their wedding years ago.

The movie star made the revelation during Tope Alabi’s 55th birthday celebration, explaining that his decision was driven by fear, not malice.

Olaiya recalled that he had just purchased a Mercedes-Benz V-Boot, which he fondly nicknamed “Ololade Mr Money 1” after the success of his movie.

According to him, Tope Alabi had visited to inform him of her upcoming wedding and requested to use the car for the event. He initially agreed but later had a change of heart.

“She informed me about her wedding, and I had just bought a car. But after she left, I had a second thought: what if armed robbers snatched the car from them?” he said.

The actor revealed that his anxiety stemmed from a recent traumatic experience in Ibadan, where the same car was stolen while he was promoting his film. Although the car was eventually recovered, the incident left him deeply shaken.

“A day before the wedding, I stopped picking Tope’s calls. I didn’t give her the car. I disappointed Tope Alabi. It wasn’t out of malice but fear of losing what I had just acquired,” he confessed.

Olaiya said he has since sought forgiveness from the gospel singer, but the guilt still lingers.

Meanwhile, during her 55th birthday celebration, Tope Alabi’s husband, Soji Alabi, surprised her with a brand-new Lexus SUV.
