Woman Tells Court “Husband Demands Sex Up To Eight Times Every Night”

A woman in Harare, Zimbabwe, has approached a civil court seeking protection from her husband, alleging persistent sexual demands and physical abuse that have taken a toll on her health.

The woman, identified as Melocia Gwata, told the Harare Civil Court that her husband, George Kusotera, regularly coerced her into having sexual intercourse as many as eight times in a single night, and often became violent when she resisted.

According to Melocia, her husband’s demands were not limited to nighttime, as he allegedly insisted on daily sexual activity and would wake her repeatedly in the middle of the night, even after several encounters earlier in the day.

“He wants to have sex every day and wakes me up in the middle of the night, even after we’ve been intimate countless times on the same day,” she told the court.

She said the situation had severely affected her physical strength and mental wellbeing, adding that refusing his advances often resulted in assault.

Melocia further alleged that her husband threatened her with divorce and verbally abused her in front of their children.

“He has been assaulting me in front of our children, shouting obscenities and telling them I don’t deserve to be called their mother,” she said.

The case was heard by Magistrate Judith Taruvinga, who listened to testimonies from both parties.

In his response, George Kusotera admitted to the behaviour, apologised to his wife, and attributed his actions to intense affection.

“I didn’t realise I was making her uncomfortable. I apologise and promise not to physically abuse her anymore,” he told the court.

After considering the submissions, the magistrate granted a protection order in favour of Melocia, barring her husband from further abuse and ensuring her safety.
